Stoked in Sorrento

When we got to Italy we were all extremely excited, but also very tired and smelly from hours of travel. We weren't done with traveling yet however; there was another three hour drive down to Sorrento. We were anxious to get to our hotel and were looking forward to showers. Everything was forgotten the minute we drove around the last mountain to arrive in Sorrento. The view was breathtaking. The sun was just setting over a vibrant city nestled between giant mountains covered in green trees and lemon groves. A million pictures were probably taken right then.

After a good night's rest, our second day began and was full of amazing experiences. Our first stop was a small mozzarella-making farm. We were allowed to taste mozzarella, marmalades, and olive oils. Needless to say, we savored the freshness in each bite. Next, we were on to a pizza making class where we became "masters" (probably not). However, we got to try out some traditional dancing and delicious pizza.

After eating three meals already, we decided to go swimming in the Mediterranean. The views were beautiful, and the water was clear and bright blue--we even taught Tari how to swim!

For our fourth meal, we drove to a lemon grove. There, we learned about organic farming, polycultures, and how to eat only natural foods.  The best part was learning that in Italy, you can eat lemons with both the rind and the fruit. (America unfortunately covers there lemons in wax to keep them looking pretty...yummy.)

Next, we headed to Sorrento to explore the city and complete some team challenges. Groups talked to locals, went shopping, and enjoyed gelato. For some people, it was their second gelato of the day.

By the end of the day, the group was once again exhausted, but had made some interesting realizations. First, we learned that food can be real. No preservatives, no chemicals, just nature's goodness. And boy, did we enjoy that goodness. As Jordan said, "My stomach feels like it's going to explode, but my heart is full." The Italians are so passionate about their food and were proud to share it with us. All in all, today was a fantastic day, and we are stoked to see where tomorrow leads us.
